(Updated 01/13/21) Do you want to know what's open in Los Angeles This Weekend? Here is a big list of places that are open in and near LA that you can enjoy with your family this weekend that are safe. We update this list as LA County Guidelines change due to the number of COVID-19 cases.

Starting November 16, 2020, nonessential retail establishments must close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Also, beginning November 25 at 10 p.m. to slow the spread of COVID-19, LA County’s Department of Health will suspend outdoor, on-premise dining in Los Angeles. Takeout and delivery of restaurant food can continue.

As of December 6, 2020, bars, wineries, personal services like hair salons, barbershops, museums, movie theaters, amusement parks, and indoor recreation facilities must close. Playgrounds were on this list, but as of December 9, 2020, Playgrounds in LA County are open again!

Happy Place – The Drive Thru – Presented by Subaru

From now to January 18th, Happy Place will be at Westfield Century City with reimagined drive thru experience. This event features 18 larger-than-life experiences and interactive moments. Some highlights include the world’s first giant piano you play with your car, a rainbow road, a pulsating nightclub for your car, and supersized sweets. Tickets are $49.50 on weekdays and $69.50 per vehicle on weekends.

Insomniac's Electric Mile Drive-Thru Experience

A brand new, fully immersive, audiovisual drive-thru experience, Insomniac's Electric Mile, is at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia. At this drive-thru experience, a curated soundtrack of fun, uplifting dance music hits will accompany you as you travel through a stunning array of synchronized light installations and visual effects from the comfort of your own car. Tickets are on sale now at and start at $69.99 plus fees per vehicle. All passes allow up to eight people in a vehicle.

Venice Boardwalk

Venice Boardwalk is open to the public. You can grab a bite to eat and shop at stores.

Gondola Cruises

This venetian adventure through the canals of Naples Island offers one of the most unique experiences in Los Angeles! Jurassic Quest Drive Thru

A variety of shopping and dining experiences has reopened at the Downtown Disney District, including the World of Disney store. Face coverings are required for Guests ages 2 and older.

Swan Pedal Boat Rental At Echo Park

The Swan Boats at Echo Park Lake are one of Los Angeles’ hidden gems. Explore Echo Park Lake on Echo Park pedal boats during the day or night. You can have up to 5 people on each boat. Reservations are necessary and required in advance.

The Parks are closing off streets for you and your families to safely walk and ride while maintaining social distancing during the pandemic. Bikes, scooters, and skateboards are welcome! Los Angeles County Beaches

Los Angeles County's beaches are open with restrictions. That is they will be open only for active use like swimming, surfing, walking, biking. This means people will not be able to lay down on the beach or picnic. Beach parking lots are now open.

The wine hike is a 2 mile loop hike where you get to explore the vineyards of Saddlerock Ranch, organic gardens, Chumash Native American cave paintings, and more! On the wine hike you will join with other small groups for a guided hike and will receive wine to-go.

Event Factory provides luxury picnic experiences on the beach or at a park. Available locations are Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Beverly Hills, or Marina Del Rey. You will get picnic table(s) with pillows and rug seating, fresh flowers, decor, candle(s), umbrella(s), and more for 2 to 10 people.

Universal CityWalk

Select venues are open for limited operations from 12-8pm daily. Self parking is free. You are required to wear a face covering and get your temperature checked at the entrance.

Playgrounds & Outdoor Fitness Equipment

As of December 9, 2020, all playgrounds have reopened again for public use with mandatory social distancing and limited use up to 30 minutes.

Pacific Park Santa Monica Pier

The Santa Monica Pier is open with limited hours, 10 am – 8 pm. You should enter the Pier from Ocean Front Walk. Not all businesses on the Pier will be open during this limited operation. (Santa Monica Pier will be closed the entire month of January 2021 due to the rise in the number of COVID cases.)

Battleship Iowa Museum

Battleship USS Iowa served our country proudly in WWII, Korea, and the Cold War. Today, the historic U.S. Navy ship is an iconic Los Angeles landmark and considered one of the region’s best outdoor museums for families and visitors of all ages. The outdoor museum is open during the pandemic

Stranger Things At ROW DTLA

Stranger Things: The Drive-Into Experience is open at Skylight ROW DTLA. Grab your flashlights, buckle up and prepare for an electrifying adventure into the mysterious world of 1985 Hawkins.  

Private Vineyard Adventure Tour

The 4x4 Adventure tour is a 2 hour guided Adventure around the Saddlerock Ranch Vineyards. You will get to explore the vineyards and natural areas on the property. Stops may include visits to Chumash Native American archaeological site, organic vegetable garden, mountain top overlooks, and many more. This is a private tour and accommodate from 1-5 guests.

Graham Garden at Halo

Graham Garden at Halo in DTLA is now open. Graham Garden integrates Fountain Figures I-IV, a collection of graceful sculptures created by late Los Angeles artist Robert Graham, in a newly designed outdoor plaza at Halo.

Soulcycle in DTLA is bringing select studios outdoors for classes 7 days a week throughout the summer. The bikes are placed at least 6 feet apart.

Wildlife Learning Center

Wildlife Learning Center is open and offers tours to families. You need to wear masks and maintain the recommended 6-foot social distancing guidelines between your group and the tour guides.

Interactive Tours At Ocean Institute

Experience Ocean Institute with an interactive tour of the entire facility that houses 1,000 marine animals. This tour explores the food chain from top to bottom and offers a hands-on experience with the new horn shark and tidepool touch tank. Weekend Tour Times are 10:00 am, 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm.

Malibu Surf Camping Trip

Experience the Malibu coast, from the ocean to the mountains. These one or two day trips allow beginners a chance to learn surfing in a locally flavored way. Your surf guide will take you on a surf trip giving you personalized surf instruction, insider tips, as well as meals, transportation, and all the gear you need for the weekend.

L.A. County Arboretum

L.A. County Arboretum is open but tickets are limited to preserve safe distancing. Members are required to reserve free tickets online prior to visiting. Non-members must buy tickets online in advance. When visiting, you are required to wear a mask or other face covering. All indoor spaces are closed and all classes, events, and tours activities are suspended.

Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area

The Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area in the Baldwin Hills area is open, including its parking lot. The vehicle entrance fee is $6 on weekends and holidays, free on weekdays. Playgrounds and picnic areas in the park remain closed.

Arlington Garden in Pasadena

Arlington Garden is a three-acre garden on Caltrans-owned land. The garden is open every day except on Tuesdays during the pandemic and is free to the public. You may not use the furniture, maintain six-feet from others, wear a face mask, and bring your own hand sanitizer during social distancing.

California Botanic Garden

California Botanic Garden is open with limited capacity on Wednesdays through Sundays from 8 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 8 pm. Members may visit without reservation, but the general public will need to purchase a ticket in advance.

The Gentle Barn Drive-Thru

You can experience The Gentle Barn in a whole new way. This new drive-thru experience will take you behind the scene to areas of the California property that is normally not open to the public. Starting with a tour of the Sun Chlorella: Healing Center in Agua Dulce, just 10 miles up the road. Then down to the main Gentle Barn property, and ending with you casting a wish in the wishing well.

Stone Soup Farm

Enjoy meandering through the lush paths of the Woodland as you pick apples, press your own apple cider, tour the reproduction Farmhouse with interactive activities, and enjoy the beauty of the seasonal gardens. (1 1/2 hour drive from LA). (Worth the drive)

The train and Wheel Fun Rentals at Irvine Park including bike and paddleboat rentals are open now. Visitors are required to social distance and wear face masks in line and for the train ride. Restrooms will be open as well with hand sanitizer stations. Pony rides and horse rentals will be open as well. Playgrounds remain closed and group areas and picnic benches are taped off and may not be used.

Dana Wharf

Rentals in the Newport Dunes are open for taking out kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, paddleboats, and Duffy boats.

Dolphin Adventures

Channel Islands Dolphin Adventures specializes in safely leading small groups on dolphin and whale watching excursions out of the Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard CA. They take you on a tour aboard a state-of-the-art 30ft commercial tour boat.

National Forests

Most National Forests are open for walking and hiking. Hikers should practice social distancing, and stick to wide roads instead of single-track trails that are too narrow.

Heritage Square

Heritage Square is open on Friday, Saturday & Sunday for Self Guided Walking Tours. View the lovely historic buildings from the outside, stroll through the beautiful grounds and take a look at the garden in progress. Tickets are available online.

Rose Bowl Loop Trail

The 3.1-mile loop trail near Pasadena is now open to the public for hiking. Everyone need to practice social distancing and wear facial coverings while on the trials. Lot 1 is the only open parking lot and you can only park there for 90 minutes.

Paramount Drive-In Theatre

The drive-In will operate at 50% capacity. Customers must leave 9’ spacing between vehicles. General admission is $10 for adults and $3.50 for kids 5 through 8. Kids under 5 are free.

Street Food Cinema Drive-In

Watch a movie in the great outdoors while staying safe and cozy in your car. Car entry is $20 and general admission is $8 per person. Please check the website for the schedule.

Catalina Express

Catalina Express continues to operate for essential travel to and from Catalina Island twice a day. All passengers and employees are required to wear a face-covering on board or mask when in the terminals or on board the vessels.

Jetski Adventure To Catalina Island

Ride a jetski from Long Beach to Catalina Island and experience all the wonder that exists in the offshore playground. This adventure puts you "face to face" with hundreds of pacific ocean dolphins. This is an all-day open water jetski adventure and includes a jetski ride across the ocean to catalina Island, riding with the dolphins, swimming thru caverns, and snorkeling in crystal clear waters.

Catalina Island Beaches & Moorings

Catalina Island's remote beaches are open for those who have the permission and ability to access them. The Conservancy's remote moorings have been reopened. The Harbors General Store is open as is the West End Gallery for meals and drinks to go.

Mt Baldy Resort

Mount Baldy Resort is open for tubing. Take a serene alpine lift ride to the Top of the Notch recreation area for snow-play at an elevation of nearly 7,800ft. The tubing park is made up of lanes for sliding and walking with a stoping hill at the bottom. In the meantime, you can enjoy the Tubing Park! Face coverings are required and you need to practice social distancing.

San Diego Beaches

San Diego County has reopened its beaches for swimming, surging, kayaking, and paddle-boarding. Group activities, sunbathing, or boating, however, are not allowed.

Oasis Camel Dairy

Oasis Camel Dairy Farm is open now! They are booking private tours where you can meet and feed camels and other animals.
