Either way, Los Angeles is a fantastic place to be a comic fan, and a trip to a real comic book store is one of the easiest, most affordable outings you can plan on a free afternoon.
We have fully updated our big list of comic book stores in Los Angeles for 2026. Many of these shops also carry Pokémon cards, manga, toys, collectibles, board games, and trading card games, and several host kid-friendly signings, sales, and game nights. A few stores from our older list have closed or moved, so we have marked those clearly below, and we have added more than a dozen comic shops that are new to our list.
What Changed in Our 2026 Comic Book Store Update
Comic shops come and go, so we checked every store on this list against its own website, social media pages, and current listings in September 2026. Here is the quick version:
Moved: Secret Headquarters (now in Atwater Village), Pulp Fiction Comics and The Comic Bug (both still in Culver City), Legacy Comics and Cards (across the street in Glendale), We Can Be Heroes Comics (Chatsworth), and Kinokuniya's Little Tokyo store.

Mega-City One is a go-to Melrose stop for comics, graphic novels, toys, T-shirts, and games. Card-loving kids will find Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, and Yu-Gi-Oh! packs, singles, and sealed products, and the store runs regular Magic tournaments.
Headed north? Its sister shop, Mega City 2, is at 1124 19th St. in Bakersfield.

Founded in 1979, Golden Apple is one of the most famous comic shops in Los Angeles, and walking in feels a little like stepping onto a movie set. You'll find new weekly releases from Marvel, DC, Image, and independent publishers, plus back issues, graphic novels, toys, statues, and trading cards, including Pokémon and Magic.
Golden Apple regularly hosts creator signings, and there is a parking lot next door, which is a small miracle on Melrose. Hours are generally Monday and Tuesday from noon to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
Sunset Comix (Closed)
This store is closed. Sunset Comix, which operated on the second floor at 8539 Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood, is now listed as permanently closed.

Revenge Of calls itself a nerd bodega, and the name fits. The shelves are packed with comics, manga, graphic novels, action figures, board games, and collectibles, and there is even a pinball room, which makes it a great pick when your kids need a reward for waiting patiently while you browse.
Comic Book Stores in Downtown LA, Little Tokyo and East LA
Kinokuniya is a Japanese bookstore chain, and it is pure heaven for manga fans. Each store carries a huge selection of manga, graphic novels, art and design books, stationery, and children's books in both English and Japanese.
Big news for 2026: the Little Tokyo store reopened on July 1 in a new, roughly 14,000-square-foot space in the Kajima Building, so skip the old Weller Court address. The new store is open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Other Books in Boyle Heights is an independent bookstore with new and used books, comics, zines, and children's books. The collection leans toward alternative and international comics, literature in translation, and creators of color, which makes it a wonderful place to help older kids and teens discover something beyond superheroes.

Dungeon Dungeon (Closed)
This store appears to be closed. Dungeon Dungeon, the Secret Headquarters sister shop that operated inside The Last Bookstore at 453 S. Spring St., is no longer listed by either Secret Headquarters or The Last Bookstore. The Last Bookstore itself is still a fun downtown stop for book-loving families.

Geoffrey's Hi De Ho Comics (Closed)
This store is closed. After more than four decades in Santa Monica, Hi De Ho closed its Lincoln Boulevard shop on December 31, 2023. Its sister store, Geoffrey's Comics in Torrance, closed at the same time.

What Is a Pull List?
A pull list is your personal reservation list at a comic shop. You tell the store which series you want, and each week the staff set aside the new issues for you. It means you won't miss a popular issue that sells out, and some shops offer perks or discounts to pull list customers.
How to Set Up a Pull List
Decide which titles your family wants. You can list single issues or whole series if you want every new issue.
Ask at the counter. Some shops use a paper form, and others use an in-store or online system.
Pick up your comics regularly. New issues usually arrive on Wednesdays, though holiday weeks can cause delays.
Parent tip: Agree on a monthly comic budget with your child before you sign up. Single issues add up quickly, and a pull list is a great, low-stakes way to teach kids about planning and saving.
Free Comic Book Day 2027
Free Comic Book Day happens once a year at participating comic shops around the world, usually on the first Saturday in May. On that day, you can walk into a participating store and pick up specially printed comics for free, with titles for every age.
Free Comic Book Day 2026 took place on Saturday, May 2. Early reports point to Saturday, May 1, 2027, for the next one, so confirm the date on the official Free Comic Book Day website as it gets closer. Quantities are limited, so arrive early, and consider buying something to thank the shop for hosting.
Reading Comics Digitally
ComiXology Unlimited is still a separate subscription from Kindle Unlimited and costs about $5.99 a month. The standalone Comixology app was retired in December 2023, so your comics now live in the Amazon Kindle app.
Marvel Unlimited opens up a huge digital library of Marvel comics for $9.99 a month or $69 a year, with a seven-day free trial. Heads up: the old Marvel Comics app for buying single issues was discontinued in June 2023, and past purchases moved into Marvel Unlimited.
Dark Horse closed its own digital comics store and apps in March 2025. Dark Horse titles are now sold digitally through other platforms.
Your Library Card

Parent Tips for Visiting a Comic Book Store with Kids
Check the age rating. Most publishers print one on the cover, and shop staff are usually happy to point you toward all-ages titles.
Go on a Wednesday for new releases, or on a weekday afternoon for a quieter browse.
Set a budget before you walk in, especially at shops that sell Pokémon and other trading cards.
Ask about kids' events, game nights, and signings. Many shops post these on Instagram first.
Bring a little cash. A few smaller shops have historically preferred it.
