  • How to Make the Most of Your Time With Your Kids During Quarantine

The quarantine mandate forced families around the world to stay at home and limit non-essential trips to public places. Everything quickly changed; shops closed, and businesses temporarily stopped operations. Schools abruptly ended classes. The new normal set in, and it took some time for everyone to adjust to it. For parents, adjusting also means helping their children cope with these lifestyle changes. They need to find ways to keep the little ones active and entertained. Sure, the iPad, smartphone, and tablets can help, but too much exposure to these devices is not good. However, parents can do plenty of creative activities with their children throughout the quarantine period. Teach them the value of giving This quarantine period is the best time to teach children about the importance of giving and sharing. You can sign them up with a charitable organization and donate on their behalf. You can even open a kids debit card for them to donate to charities on their own. This giving activity may not be as entertaining as the games your children are used to, but it will be an exciting and inspiring experience for them. This activity will not only make them feel good, but it will also teach them how to be responsible. Schedule a regular movie and game night Once a week, gather the children and the rest of the family for movie night. You can write movie titles on small strips of paper and place them inside a jar or any similar container. Family members can then take turns in picking the movie to watch. If you want to be more creative, you can alternate movie nights with game nights. The children can choose the games to play each week. Don’t forget to prepare some snacks and beverages, and take a lot of fun photos. Organize weekend backyard parties or campouts If your backyard is spacious enough, you can organize a weekend party at least once a month. Just make sure to specify that the party is for the family only. Alternate these backyard parties with fun and creative campouts with the children. Prepare some camping activities and a lot of marshmallows! Schedule a cooking or baking session Cooking and baking are fun and creative learning activities. You can start with simple recipes such as fried chicken and making pancakes or cupcakes. Allow your children to explore their creativity by giving them the freedom to decorate their baking creations. Find time to color or journal with them Coloring is a relaxing creative activity that any kid loves to do. Pick out one day a week to color with your children. You can print out images if you don’t have coloring books. Your children’s favorite fairy tale characters are good choices. If your kids are a bit older, you can have regular journaling sessions with them. Use stickers, coloring and writing materials, and old notebooks or planners. If you don’t have stickers, use magazine cut-outs, or look for images online and print them. Get into sports Being in quarantine might just be the perfect time to introduce sports to your children. Choose simple ones that you can do as a family, such as a DIY obstacle course or kicking/throwing a ball. The quarantine mandate may have changed the way we do things, but it has also allowed us to spend precious time with our family and loved ones. Use this time wisely.

  • 5 Things You Should Know Before You Start Mountain Biking!

Going out with your two-wheeler or bike for daily usage can be healthy. However, if you ardently want to experience some genuine fun and challenges, mountain biking is definitely in your cards. When you go up the tough terrains and rocky pathways with your favorite bicycle, the thrill of mountain biking will feel like heaven. However, you can’t start biking in the mountain from city traffic. It would put you in front of many unseen problems. So, it would be best if you took proper preparations. Hence, we came up with an engaging tutorial on 5 things you should know before you start mountain biking. So, are you up for it? 1. Understand your expenditure When you plan for a mountain biking with your bicycle for the first time, you may not be aware of the expenditure. It varies considerably compared to the gears and type of bike you will need for city traffic and daily commute. You may need to expend anywhere between $500 to $2000 to prepare correctly for the mountaineering task. The expenditure includes your bicycle budget and gears. We have carefully chosen the budget to meet the requirements and the sweet spot of your comfort zone. For instance, an average mountaineering bike will cost you around $500 to $850. In this budget, you get a decent and handy hard-tail bike. However, if you are ready to spend higher, the full-suspension bike is ready to serve you. Also, you can opt for various cutting edge bikes with smart integration if you have the budget. Besides the bike, you would need to spend on your gears, such as smart devices for measuring heart and breath rate. You may want a GPS enabled watch as well. Finally, a pair of safety goggles, mountaineering helmet to protect your head, and knee and ankle caps are also necessary. The adequate budgeting for all these gears will help you prepare entirely for your first mountain trip. And once you learn the initial steps and techniques, you can always upgrade to a better bicycle for more challenges. 2. Fix your bike at the beginning Most bikers, during their first mountain expedition, are unsure about the type of bicycle they should purchase. So, if you are one of them and don’t know which way to go, we suggest you opt for the trail bike at the beginning. It is quite a rigid bike and easy to ride, as well. However, it is not only about the ease of riding. Instead, the bike offers smooth riding on every terrain and supports maximum riding styles too. The tail bike blends fun and safety requirements for a lifetime of biking experiences. What’s more, a trail bike is easily transformable between a hard-tail and full suspension with little adjustments. So, you are at liberty to go with your style and preference. However, if you don’t like riding on a trail bike, there are other alternatives for you as well. They include: Downhill: Downhill bike is designed to ride on shuttle assisted and life-assisted mountain trails. Cross Country: The Cross Country bike is suitable for all-day riding without much fatigue. Also, it is an ideal option for going uphill and feeling the thrill of the race. All-Mountain: The All-Mountain bike is designed to ride on steeper trails and descending rides with the utmost safety. 3. Don’t ignore the safety equipment Overconfidence during mountain biking is a fatal decision most cyclists make during their initial stage. We have seen many cyclists going bare equipment to enjoy the freshest air and ended up getting minor to significant injuries. So, we always suggest you prepare with the right gear before you go for the first mountain trip. These safety gears for mountain biking keep you safe and help you tackle riskier trails with more confidence. First, get the right helmet. You can choose from the regular or full-face helmet, depending on your comfort zone. If you love downhill and high-speed steep riding, we recommend a full-face helmet. It is designed for aggressive riding. As you drive through various terrains, particles such as pebbles, dust, debris, and tree branches lark around you. Therefore, you should invest in adequate eye protection to avoid accidents. You may choose a professional-grade mountain biking glasses for $50 to $150. Nonetheless, a pair of contractor glasses will do the job fine, which cost around $3 to $5. So, even if they get lost, you won't lose much. 4. Figure out your biking interest When we speak about mountain biking, it is not only riding the mountain uphill with your favorite bicycle. You can opt for uphill, downhill, or even the flat terrain biking. Also, you need to consider the biking location. Will you be riding mostly on tropical conditions or icy places? These considerations are crucial since they will help you choose the right bike and tire type. The tire of the bicycle is vital, so you need to figure out the threaded pattern of it. Once you can determine your biking preference, you can quickly figure out the type of bike too. Lastly, it will prepare you better, both mentally and physically. 5. Ready to fall: Although it seems somewhat weird, it is evident that you will fall at some point during your mountain biking. So, you need to be prepared for it so that you can rise tall after the fall and begin riding with confidence. There will be scars and bruises on your limbs, hands, and other parts of the body. But they shouldn’t frustrate you, instead, take pride in them. However, don’t fall off guards. Always use protective gear such as elbow and knee pads and ankle strips for a safe fall. The excitement of mountain biking is next to none. Once you learn the right way of going uphill or downhill with your mountain bike, you will be in the seventh sky. However, it would be ardently best if you prepared well before kicking off the challenging mountain biking. There are multiple other things you should also know, including riding position, seating arrangement, and so on.

  • Great Tips to Help Children to Keep Learning During Summer Break

Children are looking forward to the end of the school year and the start of the long-awaited summer break. They don't have to wake up early, go to school, do homework, or pack their backpacks. How wonderful! Parents are also relieved of many responsibilities. After all, packing lunch every day, helping with homework, and getting up super early to drive kids to school on time is not easy! The beauty of summer break is you get to relax too. But while you are putting some responsibilities aside, you should be aware of the "summer slide". It is fact that over the summer break students stop learning and even lose some of what they've learned during the school year. To help your kids keep on learning during summer and to avoid the "summer slide", we have some great ideas to help you help your kids learn during summer break. Helping Children to Learn During Summer Break 1. Play Math Games There are many educational apps and websites that you can download or access for free that teach additions, subtractions, multiplications, divisions, and much more. Some apps offer competitive math games that your kids would really love playing, especially if they love electronic devices. 2. Practice Essay Writing Skills Another important skill to learn during the summer break is essay writing. Essay writing is not easy. It takes a lot of practice and learning. Your kids need to learn how to organize their thoughts and transfer them into paper. The more they practice, the better they will get better at it. But sometimes, everyone just needs a little help. Sometimes, no matter how hard your kids try, they have no idea how to complete an essay without some assistance. In that case, you can get the help of Edubirdie writer to check your skills and understand how to organize your thoughts. 3. Read Books One of the most important things your kids can do during summer is read books. Summer reading is essential for kids to continue building their reading skills, learn new vocabulary, and keep their brains sharp. If children don’t learn to love reading books when they are still young, as adults they will find it too difficult to read. Some kids love watching television or play video games, so you need to find the right way to distract your children from the smartphones and the TV. We suggest reading together. You can read simple literature that everyone likes like Harry Potter or a Marvel hero. Be sure to discuss what you read, ask your child's opinions about the main characters, and be sure to praise them for reading. 4. Virtual Classes For school children, there are many live interactive online classes and camps during summer. You can find different workshops and virtual classes online with subjects ranging from mathematics to chess, cooking, and more. You can find individual classes or group masterclasses. In the group classes, children can find new friends and develop communication skills. With individual classes, the emphasis will be on your child for more focused learning. 5. Educational Summer Camps You can also send children to educational summer camps such as language camps, STEAM camps, coding camps and more. You can choose to send your kids to summer camp for a week, for a month, or the whole summer. The huge advantage of summer camps is that children will not only learn new skills, they will also work on their communication skills with peers, make new friends, and engage in physical activities. 6. Free Educational Classes Many libraries offer free educational classes and book reading competitions. Find a nearby library and find out what programs they are offering during summer. You can also check Apple stores and Microsoft stores for free sessions like photography, video labs, music editing, coding, computer skills, and more. Education during the summer break is highly recommended by scholars, but be careful not to make it stressful for your child. After all, it is their summer break and they should rest and have fun. Education should be exciting and interesting so they learn through play. Kids who are constantly learning are more productive and successful in life. So encourage your kids to be active and keep on learning in fun and exciting ways, and make it a group effort to learn with them.

  • Are Travel Credit Cards Still Relevant This Summer?

If you are a keen traveler, the 2020 Covid Pandemic may have ruined many of your plans. Although many pandemic restrictions may have been eased, the CDC still has some recommendations that may sway your travel decisions. So, if you’re no longer a frequent traveler, does this mean that travel cards are still relevant this summer? The Benefits of Travel Credit Cards for Occasional Travelers: While you may not be planning an extensive, globe-trotting vacation season this summer, there are still benefits of travel credit cards for occasional travelers. These include: ● Travel Perks: Most travel credit cards offer perks, with many cards catering to every type of traveler rather than just frequent fliers. For example, free checked bags is a common perk with travel credit cards. Depending on the airline, this could potentially save your travel group hundreds of dollars on your trip. You could also get reimbursement or a discount for your inflight purchases. This could add up to considerable savings, even if you’re only taking a domestic trip this summer. ● Free Nights: If you’re feeling the economic pinch this summer, you may appreciate the free night’s stay offered with travel credit cards. Many cards provide a free night certificate each year, valid at hotels up to a specific point cost. This means that while you may not get a premium hotel experience, you can enjoy a comfortable stay without breaking your budget. ● Non-Travel Rewards: While travel is prioritized, many travel cards offer rewards for your non-travel purchases. Many card issuers have realized that the pandemic changed people’s spending habits, so there are cards offering extra points when paying for gas or groceries with your card. Some travel cards also have additional bonus categories such as dining out. So, even though you’re not traveling, you can still accumulate rewards for your next break. The Potential Downsides: Of course, there are also potential downsides to having a travel credit card, particularly if you no longer feel inclined to travel as frequently as you previously did. These include: The Annual Fee: While there are some exceptions, travel credit cards can have an annual fee ranging from $95 to $695. A 2018 research shows that over half of American consumers were unaware of the annual fee on their credit cards. While many people may be more finance aware now, you may have signed up for a travel card with the thought that your typical travel habits would easily offset the annual fee. Of course, if you’re not planning on traveling this summer, you may have greater difficulty covering the annual fee with your card perks. Therefore, you need to take a realistic look at whether your current typical spending patterns will allow you to cover your annual fee with ease; if not, you’re simply throwing money away. Unstable Redemption Values: Many consumers have noticed that travel miles have dropped in value in recent years. This was highlighted in June 2021 in a Washington Post article. However, it does highlight a larger potential issue for travel credit cardholders. While the percentage cash back on a standard reward card can’t be stealthily changed, a mile is only worth what the redemption value offered. This means that if you’re saving up miles for a trip, you may struggle to know what redemption value you’ll receive next month, next year, or further into the future. How to Consider if a Travel Card is Best for You With so many credit card options, if you’re unsure whether travel credit cards are still relevant, you will need to think carefully about whether a travel card is best for you. There are many factors to consider, including: Do You Have a Travel Goal? If you’re struggling to decide whether a travel card is right for you, you should consider your travel goals. Travel cards tend to be better suited to those planning luxury travel since the annual fees and perks are usually geared towards upgrades and creating a more memorable travel experience. You must understand the awards and how to best use them towards your travel goal. Just be sure you have a redemption goal rather than an open-ended plan, as miles could be worthless in the future. In this category. The Amex Platinum card and the Chase Sapphire Reserve are top cards in terms of luxury. Think About Your Spending Habits: Your typical spending habits are vital when determining if a travel credit card is worth it. If you typically only put a few hundred dollars on your card each month, you will likely be better off with a cash-back rewards card. These cards generally have lower or no annual fees and offer a tiered cash back structure for all your purchases. You can use category bonuses and then redeem your rewards via the card’s travel portal. Just be sure that the value of the points you earn will be higher than the card’s annual fee. The popular cards are the Amex Gold card and the Chase Sapphire Preferred. Some users prefer the Amex gold card over the platinum card since spending habits include everyday purchases such as groceries and supermarkets. Assess the Recurring Benefits: While you may not be able to use a travel credit card daily, if it offers generous recurring benefits, it may be worth keeping it or signing up. For example, the Hilton Aspire card offers Hilton Diamond status and a free weekend night yearly award. These can provide superb value for keen Hilton visitors. So, look at the recurring benefits, and if they can save you money or have a great deal for you, it could be worthwhile. Are There Cheaper Alternatives: A credit card packed with perks doesn’t mean it is the best option for you. It is usually well worth checking if there are cheaper alternatives that still offer perks you’ll enjoy. While the higher annual fee cards typically have more benefits, you may find the benefits you’ll appreciate with a card with a lower or no annual fee.
