Los Angeles Unified School District Approved Calendar for the 2023-2024 school year!

(Updated July 13, 2023) Here are all the dates you need to know for the school year 2023-2024 for LAUSD as approved by LAUSD on March 27, 2023, and updated on June 2, 2023. Also, note that the winter recess has returned to a 3-week winter break.

The first day of school for the 2023-2024 school year is Monday, August 14, 2023.

The last day of school for the 2023-2024 school year is Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

2023-2024 LAUSD School Holidays

Thanksgiving Break 2023

Thanksgiving Break is a full week of break from November 20, 2023, through November 24, 2023.

Winter Recess 2023-2024

A sweeping agreement announced on June 2, 2023, between unions and Los Angeles School Officials will result in a return to a three-week winter break. The three-week winter break will return for the next two school years. The district and union will negotiate what happens after that. Winter break will begin December 18, 2023, with classes resuming Jan. 8, 2024.

Spring Break 2024

Spring Break is from March 25, 2024, through March 29, 2024. The kids will return to school on April 2, 2024, because Cesar E. Chavez's Birthday falls on April 1, 2024, making the spring break a little longer.

Generally, spring break for most schools in the United States falls around the same time each year, usually the week before Easter.
