Summer is a great time for students to explore their interests and learn new skills. For those interested in music, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) offers free summer programs through the Fender Middle School Music program. This program provides middle school and high school students with the opportunity to learn to play acoustic guitar, electric guitar, electric bass, or ukulele.
Registration for the Fender summer enrichment program opens on Monday, April 3, 2023, and runs until Friday, April 28, 2023. Students who are currently enrolled in an LAUSD school and who are interested in learning to play an instrument can register for one course per student. Each student requires a separate registration form, and spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Fender Middle School Music program offers after-school virtual courses four days per week, from Monday to Thursday. Classes will be held online via the district's Schoology application. For the summer 2023 session, students will be able to choose between two schedules: Monday to Thursday 2:00-3:00 p.m. or 3:00-4:00 p.m. The summer session will run from June 26 to July 27.
The program is open to all middle school students, but it is highly recommended that continuing Fender students register. The program is also open to high school students, but only to those who are currently enrolled in the program. No new senior high school students will be accepted.
If you are interested in registering your child for the Fender Middle School Music program, you can do so on the enrichment.lausd.net website. Families will need to log in using their Parent Portal Resource Account. If you encounter any issues with registration, you can contact Parent and Community Services (PCS) at (213) 443-1300 for assistance.
Instruments will be provided free of charge to students who commit to attending and fully participating in all instructional classes. However, quantities are limited, and instruments will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. The program is not for credit.
If you have registered for a course and wish to change your selection, you can do so during the application window by clicking on the "View Submitted Applications" link and canceling the course you no longer want. Cancelling a course does not guarantee an available seat in another course, and changes must be made by the end of the day on April 28, 2023.
The Fender Middle School Music program is an excellent opportunity for LAUSD students to learn to play an instrument for free. If your child is interested in participating, be sure to register during the application window and commit to attending and fully participating in all instructional time.
