Looking for a Christmas tree, but on a tight budget? If so, we’ve got some good news for you! There are several charities and assistance programs that can help you get a free Christmas tree and other assistance during the holiday season. Many of these programs are also set up to help low-income families, seniors, and others struggling to make ends meet in the new year.


If you need assistance obtaining a Christmas tree or other holiday assistance, we have listed several places below that may be able to help. Contact them sooner rather than later as many of these organizations have limited capacity and their services are often in high demand!

There are so many holiday programs in Los Angeles that give free Christmas trees, toys, gifts, games, clothes, meals, and more through churches, charities, and other organizations.


This list is also great for more fortunate families to donate money, toys, clothing, and even food to these centers for low-income families. Christmas time is a great time to teach your kids compassion and to help others.

Free holiday assistance may be available for anyone that qualifies based on income and other factors. The programs can also provide Thanksgiving meals, Turkeys, toppings, and baskets.

They provide free Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance with emphasis on children in Los Angeles County. Baskets of food and hot meals are served during the holidays. They may also contain toys for children 18 years and younger. Most of the services are available for residents of Torrance, Harbor City, Lomita, and San Pedro California.



Various Locations


There are several centers across Los Angeles County. They operate food pantries that may have holiday meals and groceries. Other Christmas programs can include the Angel Tree or Adopt a Family. An Adopt a Family program is for low-income families or those in poverty that are on government benefits. The Department of Social Services partners with charities to collect toys and games and provide them to children throughout the county that are part of the system.

The Marine Toys for Tots Program collects new, unwrapped toys during October, November, and December and distributes them to less fortunate children as Christmas gifts each year. These toys make a tremendous difference in the lives of the children and families that receive them gratefully. Most of the items collected are for children under the age of 14 and they are provided to children from low-income and unemployed families.

Here, most of the assistance is free holiday food during Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. They also provide small toys or stocking stuffers for children.

The Society of Saint Vincent is made up of local churches and volunteers. Free food boxes, turkey dinners, small gifts or toys for kids, and a low-cost thrift store are all offered during the holidays. Some parents or single moms may also be given free gift cards for Christmas.

Help is provided to low-income and less fortunate families with children. Assistance includes Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets and the resources are limited to residents of El Monte and South El Monte California.

Active Recycling Co, Inc. in South Los Angeles usually distributes 1000 trees to anyone who brings in up to 500 pounds of garbage. Please contact them to see if they are offering any free trees this year.

Here they give free decorated Christmas trees. They consider all requests for a free decorated Christmas tree, but they can’t promise everyone that applies for a tree will get one.

They spread hope and joy by giving Christmas trees to families in need. This program is volunteer-driven. They are friends and neighbors who come together annually to help others during the holidays. This is an organization that gives free Christmas trees to military families. Each year trees are given out to military families on the first weekend of December. You should contact the organization early if you qualify, and if they serve California.


You can also call 211 for referrals if you can't find a location near you.

Many other local LA County churches, charities, and non-profits hold Christmas toy giveaways or pass out free gift certificates, clothes, games, books, wrapped presents, and more to kids of all ages.
