The Crow

Classes

The Crow offers students a professional, inclusive, and safe setting to grow as confident performers in either professional ACTING or COMEDY CLASSES (stand-up, joke writing, improv, sketch).  The Crow’s ACTING CLASS incorporates multiple acting techniques to enhance scene study, help build deep characters, work on audition readiness and cold reading for TV, film, and theatrical stages.

With over seventeen years of experience teaching acting to teenagers, Mickey Blaine has developed a system for young actors that teaches the tenets of serious acting to teenagers in a relatable and engaging format. In addition to his work in film and television, Mickey has worked with teenagers in school and camp settings, so he knows how to make learning fun while giving teens the tools they need to succeed in the professional world of acting.

The Crow COMEDY CLASS offers young students and teens the opportunity to find their personal comedic voice and point of view! This course helps the student write their own material and learn the concepts of building a story, premise, and punch line all while building confidence in public speaking and communication.

We work on stage presence, finding the courage to keep going when the going gets rough, thinking on your feet, mining material from your personal experience, and finding the funny!

This 8-week course meets once a week for 3 hours, culminating in a live stand-up/storytelling show at The Crow’s main stage.

The Crow
LA’s newest comedy club + school on the scene, is woman (and mom) owned, an important distinction in the male-dominated comedy world. Envisioned as a response to the all-too-common gatekeeping at comedy theaters, this collaborative space is built around inclusivity and advancement for all.

Owner and comedian Nicole Blaine emphasizes “Using comedy as a vehicle for good and for social progress is who we are.”  Nicole graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a degree in Education and Theater, has been performing for 20+ years, and teaching comedy for over a decade.

The Crow mixes stand-up, storytelling, improv, and theater classes with different cultural perspectives to elevate the comedy culture and the community at large.

The club’s name, The CROW, stands for Comedy Reflects Our World. "Our mission is to program and elevate voices that have historically been marginalized and underrepresented in the comedy club and theater scene."

    ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Student - Linus

“Speaking as a former student of Mickey’s, he was nothing short of a phenomenal acting coach. Coming out of Covid my interest in acting had greatly diminished, but I still auditioned for a play as somewhat a shot in the dark to reignite my passion for it. And I can say without a doubt that it worked thanks to Mickey Blaine. His passion for not only the arts but also for teaching them radiates onto everybody he works with. Another great thing about Mickey is he treats all of his students as equals, which in turn creates a genuine bond between his students and him. I can't even count how many times he’s given me the opportunity to give direct input into a scene or experiment with a character through different feelings and emotions. I’ve never had a teacher like Mickey Blaine, who brings his all to everything he teaches while genuinely caring for his students at the same time.”

“The Crow is awesome!! My 10-year-old son attended their summer comedy camp and I can't say enough great things about his experience! What is a comedy camp you may ask?! It's for kids who love to laugh and make others laugh and it's run by professional comedians who are fabulous teachers. There's a final show at the end of each session which includes, sketches, improv, and stand-up. The kids had a BLAST and I will never forget the first time seeing my son get on stage and perform his act with such confidence. It was truly a life-changing experience for him and I'm so grateful to Nicole and Mickey who run it for all they've done. This venue also offers grown-up comedy shows in a fantastic intimate setting where there's no bad seat. This place opened less than a month ago and I hope they stick around for many years to come!!"

    ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Parent/Elem. School Teacher - Susanne N.

This is a review for the kid's summer camp: Our eight-year-old daughter got to perform stand-up for an audience. It was one of those moments I will never forget as a parent. I got to see a side of her that I'd never seen. She was poised, confident, and really looked like she was in her element. We always thought she'd like to be on stage, but she's never been this excited about any theater, dance, or singing performance she's done in the past. She's always liked telling and writing jokes, but we didn't think much of it. I'm not sure what they exactly did at the camp, but they really helped her to find herself on the stage. I've never seen her shine as she did during the show after just 5 days of camp. Also, the show at the end of the week was incredibly well produced. You'd think a kids' comedy show would probably be a little boring and awkward, but it was actually incredibly entertaining and fun. Thank you!”

“I sent my 12 year old to The Crow for the summer comedy camp and he had an absolutely magical experience writing jokes, doing improv, performing sketches and even performing a stand up set. He came home every day with the biggest smile on his face - a total highlight of the summer!”
