United Airlines has recently announced a new family seating policy, designed to make traveling with children easier and more comfortable. The airline recognizes the importance of making air travel stress-free for families and has taken steps to improve its seating options.
Under the new policy, families traveling with young children (under 12) will have the option to reserve seats together at no extra cost. This will allow parents to sit next to their children, ensuring that they can provide comfort and support throughout the flight.
This will apply to all Economy ticket classes, including Basic Economy. In the past, families traveling on Basic Economy would have to pay extra for seat selection or hope for a kind stranger to switching seats during boarding.
The new seating policy works through a dynamic seat map feature. During booking, the online seat engine will review all available free Economy seats and then upgrade to available Preferred seats, if needed, at no extra cost. This policy does not apply to Polaris, first-class, or Economy Plus tickets. The full implementation of this change is expected by early March 2023, with immediate results.
In the case where there are no adjacent seats available on a flight, customers can switch to a different flight with the same destination and adjacent seat availability in the same cabin without any additional charges, even if there is a difference in the fare price.
