5 min read

Ready for music, movement, and a little family adventure? Cinco de Mayo falls on Wednesday, May 5, 2027, and Los Angeles families already have several celebrations to put on the calendar. From a Downtown LA festival to a seaside run and an evening of mariachi music, these outings offer different ways to enjoy the season together.

2027 planning update — checked October 24, 2026: Three events below have published 2027 dates. Other celebrations from our earlier guide are listed separately as awaiting 2027 announcements. Their return is not guaranteed, and past dates, performers, prices, and activities should not be treated as current bookings.

What Does Cinco de Mayo Celebrate?

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican victory at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It is a chance to explore Mexican and Mexican American history and cultural traditions with your children. Let the outing spark a conversation about the music, dance, food, and stories your family encounters.

Announced Cinco de Mayo Events for 2027

Location: Downtown Los Angeles; check the organizer for the final street layout and entrances.

Date and time: Sunday, April 25, 2027

Admission: Free admission; food and other purchases cost extra.

Kick off the season with a big day out in Downtown LA! Fiesta Broadway’s organizer has announced its 2027 return, with music, cultural programming, family entertainment, and food. The announced experience includes live performances and lucha libre. Check the official page for event hours, the final lineup, and family activity details before making your plans.

Location: Start line: 5400 E. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, CA

Date and time: Saturday, May 1, 2027 — Half marathon at 7 am; 5K and 10K at 8 am.

Admission: Paid registration; current early prices listed are $27.49 for the 5K, $39.15 for the 10K, and $48.69 for the half marathon, including listed fees. Prices may change.

For families who enjoy an active outing, this oceanfront run offers three distances and welcomes runners and walkers. The 5K may be the most manageable option for older children already comfortable with that distance. Review the organizer’s age, supervision, stroller, and course policies before registering children. This is a race rather than a children’s festival.

Location: Barnes Park, 350 S. McPherrin Ave., Monterey Park, CA 91754

Date and time: Thursday, May 6, 2027 — 5 pm–10 pm.

Admission: Free live entertainment; check separately for food and carnival costs.

Keep the celebration going with an evening of mariachi music, dancing, and community spirit at Barnes Park. The city has announced this event alongside its May 6–9 Play Days carnival and farmers’ market. Families can plan around the published Thursday evening schedule, then check the city’s page for the final entertainment details.

Past Celebrations to Watch: 2027 Details Not Confirmed

These entries preserve useful places to check from the previous guide. No 2027 date or booking details are confirmed here. Follow each organizer’s link for an announcement before planning a visit.

Location to check: LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, 501 N. Main St., Los Angeles

2027 status: Awaiting a verified announcement.

Past Family Days have connected the Battle of Puebla with music, performances, and hands-on workshops. It is a useful place to watch for a celebration that puts history and family learning together. A 2027 date, activity lineup, and admission or RSVP policy were not verified.

Location to check: Venice; the 2027 route and festival location need confirmation.

2027 status: Awaiting a verified announcement.

This parade appeared in our earlier guide, but its return, route, schedule, and pricing for 2027 have not been verified. Do not use the old Windward Avenue listing as a meeting point for a future edition. Wait for an organizer announcement before arranging a parade outing.

Location to check: Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica

2027 status: Awaiting a verified announcement.

Santa Monica’s past celebration included musical and folklórico performances. Watch Downtown Santa Monica’s announcements for any 2027 return. The former performer list, event date, and free-admission claim have not been carried forward as confirmed 2027 details.

Location to check: Past venue: Max Berg Plaza Park, 1100 Calle Puente, San Clemente

2027 status: Awaiting a verified announcement.

Considering an Orange County day trip? Check the city’s special-event calendar for this past family celebration. A 2027 date and program were not verified, so treat the former park location as historical information until the city confirms the next edition. Activity prices and registration requirements also need checking.

Location to check: Citadel Outlets, 100 Citadel Dr., Commerce

2027 status: Awaiting a verified announcement.

Our earlier guide included folklórico performances at the outlets. A 2027 celebration and performance timetable have not been verified. Check the center’s official announcements before pairing a shopping trip with a planned show, and do not assume the earlier noon-to-3 pm schedule will return.

Location to check: Past venue: Mission Playhouse Plaza, 320 S. Mission Dr., San Gabriel

2027 status: Awaiting a verified announcement.

The mercado appeared in our previous guide with vendors, food, entertainment, and children’s activities. Check the Mission Playhouse calendar for a future announcement. A 2027 return, date, vendor lineup, activity list, and admission policy were not verified.

Location to check: Bowers Museum, 2002 N. Main St., Santa Ana

2027 status: Awaiting a verified announcement.

The museum’s published May 3 festival page is for 2026, not 2027. That past edition included music, dance, and hands-on art activities, making the museum worth watching for a future family program. Do not assume a free family festival also includes access to every museum gallery or special exhibition.

Location to check: Bella Terra, 7777 Edinger Ave., Huntington Beach

2027 status: Awaiting a verified announcement.

Bella Terra has appeared in our past Cinco de Mayo guide as a children’s programming option. Its 2027 holiday session, performers, age recommendations, and registration terms have not been verified. Check the center’s current event listings before planning around a Kids Club visit.

Make It an Easy Family Day Out

Choose a festival for children who like short bursts of music and exploring, or a run for family members who already enjoy that distance. Check parking, stroller access, restrooms, and any registration requirements directly with the organizer. Pack water, sun protection, and a light layer for an evening celebration.

Free entertainment does not necessarily mean a completely free outing: budget separately for food, parking, carnival rides, and museum admission where applicable. Orange County entries are marked by city so you can decide whether the drive fits your day.

A Simple Cinco de Mayo Celebration at Home

If your preferred event has not been announced, make the day your own. Read an age-appropriate book about the Battle of Puebla or Mexican American history, listen to Mexican musicians, and try a recipe together. Children can make paper decorations while learning about the tradition behind them.

When Is Cinco de Mayo in 2027?

Cinco de Mayo is Wednesday, May 5, 2027. Local events may take place before or after that date. The confirmed listings in this guide currently range from April 25 through May 6.

Are All These Events Free?

No. Fiesta Broadway advertises free admission, and Monterey Park advertises free live entertainment. The Long Beach run requires paid registration. Admission and activity costs for the unconfirmed entries still need verification for 2027.
