Graduating is a tremendous achievement, and a big milestone for any graduating students. But this year there won't be any processions, no diploma handoffs, and no parties. That’s why Facebook has planned a special event on the Facebook app and Instagram for the class of 2020, which is hosted by Oprah Winfrey!
On May 15, 2020 at 11:00 am, Facebook will broadcast a graduation party on Facebook and Instagram to Celebrate the Class of 2020, and the commencement address will be given by Oprah Winfrey. Other celebrities such as Awkwafina, Jennifer Garner, Lil Nas X, Simone Biles, and more will share words of wisdom for graduating students.
Miley Cyrus will also do a special performance of her hit song, "The Climb."
Facebook is providing tools for graduates to host their own virtual graduation ceremony and parties. The company is adding special features such as a virtual graduation hub, custom filters and celebrations enabled by Messenger Rooms.
The ceremony will acknowledge high schools and colleges in the US by name, state by state, including photos and videos of the class of 2020 and messages from deans and principals across the country. The video will be shared on Facebook Watch and available at facebook.com/facebookapp.
Instagram's also rolling out new creative tools and features, including a graduation countdown sticker, a celebratory sticker pack, new AR effects, and a custom hashtag page for #Graduation2020.
