Description
West Coast Ballet brings its fifth annual production of Dracula to a brand-new stage at the Agoura Hills Performing Arts and Education Center this October. This playful, theatrical spin on the famous vampire tale mixes professional ballet with big characters, dramatic flair and a healthy dose of humor, so it works just as well for first-time ballet watchers as it does for longtime dance fans.
Audiences can look forward to new backdrops, eerie atmosphere and a cast of top-tier professional dancers who bring the story to life through athletic, expressive movement. Costumes are encouraged (vampire chic is a great choice, but skip full-face masks), and two lobby photo stations make it easy to snap a spooky family picture before the curtain rises. After the show, the cast poses for photos and signs programs, so bring a pen if your young dancer wants an autograph.
The show runs about one hour and 30 minutes, including a 20-minute intermission. Because the story is a vampire tale with a spooky mood, the company suggests it for ages 7 and up, and children should be able to sit quietly through the performance. Families with younger or easily frightened kids may want to choose seats toward the back.
Past productions have sold out, so it is smart to book early and arrive with time to spare. Doors open one hour before each show and close promptly at curtain time, and flash photography is not allowed during the performance.
