DATALAND: Machine Dreams: Rainforest

Step inside a rainforest that dreams back at you. DATALAND, the new Museum of AI Arts from Los Angeles media artist Refik Anadol and his studio, has opened at The Grand LA across from Walt Disney Concert Hall, and its first exhibition, Machine Dreams: Rainforest, turns more than a billion nature data points into rooms of moving color, sound, and scent.

Your family will wander through five multi-sensory galleries. The Data Pavilion wraps the walls and ceiling in swirling rainforest imagery powered by 84 projectors, the Infinity Room surrounds you in a glowing jungle of giant blooms, and the Latent Gallery lets visitors paint with their fingertips and move their bodies to shape the art on digital canvases. The Sanctuary closes the visit with a calm, 30-foot data painting and the scent of a rare Amazonian moonflower.

Plan on about 1.5 to 2 hours. Guests 13 and up can wear optional biosensing devices that let their heartbeat and movement influence the artwork, and participation in data collection or the scent experience is always optional. Every guest completes a participation waiver before entry, which you can sign ahead of time from your ticket confirmation email.

No minimum age is listed on the official website. Guests 13 and older may wear the biosensing devices; children 12 and under can visit but will not wear them. With its immersive projections and self-guided pace, the museum is best suited to tweens, teens, and curious older kids.

This is a paid event. Timed-entry tickets start at $49 per person, and prices vary by day and ticket tier. A separate child price is not listed on the official website, so check the ticket page when you book.

🚙 Parking

Self-parking is at The Grand LA garage, 121 S. Olive St. With DATALAND validation, it's $4.50 for the first 3 hours and $5 for each additional hour, up to $42 per day. Use the North elevators to reach the Level 4 entrance.

Valet at the Conrad Los Angeles (1st Street between Grand Ave. and Olive St.) is $15 for the first 3 hours with validation, then $5 per hour, up to $62 per day.

Metro riders can walk from Civic Center/Grand Park Station (B and D Lines) or Grand Av Arts/Bunker Hill Station.
