The Music Center Presents BEASTS

Ever wanted your kids to step inside a living cartoon? The Music Center's Digital Arts Space turns into a retro-futuristic world somewhere between Seoul and Los Angeles, where visitors become "gwoemul," shapeshifting beasts from Korean folklore. Created by Los Angeles artists Scarlett Kim and Anthony Storniolo, BEASTS is a free, participatory installation that responds to how you move.

Each family member chooses the beast that calls to them, then uses their body to help shape its story. Your crew might play hide-and-seek with a giant slug, dance through a rat-human horde, or wander a surreal underwater subway station. It is entirely self-guided, so you can follow one beast or try them all, jump right in, or simply watch the worlds unfold from the side.

Heads up for sensitive little ones: the experience includes strobe effects and intense lighting, so it may not suit kids who are bothered by flashing lights. The evening hours also make it an easy add-on to a night downtown, especially during the L.A. County Tree Lighting on November 30 and the L.A. County Holiday Celebration on December 20.

Public parking is $10 per vehicle at The Music Center (135 N. Grand Ave.) and Walt Disney Concert Hall (111 S. Grand Ave.). Public transit is encouraged: the Civic Center/Grand Park station (Metro B and D Lines) is a short walk away, and the Grand Av Arts/Bunker Hill station (Metro A and E Lines) is also nearby.
