Monster Mash

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is sinking its teeth into Halloween with Monster Mash, a daylong celebration of the most famous creature of the night: the vampire. Movie-loving families can explore how filmmakers have brought bloodsuckers to the big screen, from classic chillers to animated comedies.

The program features special-effects makeup demonstrations that reveal how Hollywood artists create fangs, scars and ghoulish faces, along with costumed monster appearances for meet-and-greets and photos. Horror-themed tours lead guests through the galleries with a spooky twist, and the museum is pairing the day with vampire film screenings, including the animated family comedy Hotel Transylvania.

Monster Mash is included with general museum admission, and visitors 17 and under always get in free, which makes it an easy outing for families. Some screenings on the lineup, such as Blade and Horror of Dracula, are aimed at older audiences, and screenings generally require their own tickets, so parents should review the schedule before booking.
