Las Posadas at Olvera Street

Las Posadas has been part of Olvera Street since its founding in 1930, reenacting Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem with traditional songs, costumes and music.

Each night, shepherds follow the angel and Mary and Joseph from shop to shop asking for shelter, until they're welcomed in and songs ring out along the street. The procession starts and ends at the Avila Adobe, the oldest house in Los Angeles.

Grupo Rondalla del Sol serenades the plaza, children can break a piñata, and everyone is treated to warm champurrado and pan dulce. Christmas Eve features a live Mary and Joseph.

All are welcome to participate. The children's piñata is for ages 3 to 12.
