General Info
Oct 17, 2026, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Getty Center, 1200 Getty Center Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90049, USA
Description
The Getty Center is throwing a free, all-day Family Festival celebrating Mexican culture and the Chicano/a communities of Los Angeles. Inspired by two photography exhibitions on view, Instante/revelación: Moments in Mexican Photography and Every Minute Is History: Five Views of Los Angeles, the festival explores how one snapshot can hold a lifetime of family stories.
Live performances keep the Museum Courtyard buzzing all day. Families can catch Academia de Danza BFFM and Ballet Folklórico Flor de Mayo dancing regional styles from across Mexico, the AfroLatin rhythms of El Santo Golpe, and Mariachi Reyna de Los Ángeles, the trailblazing all-female mariachi founded in 1994. A DJ opens the morning, and the bolero quintet Los Licenciados serenades guests near the tram and museum entrance.
Kids can get creative at all-day workshops, including Mexican sign painting with artist Melissa Govea, a Lotería hat-and-card workshop that sneaks in some Spanish vocabulary, and a foam-plate printmaking project about memories and place with Liliflor Art. Bilingual storyteller Josué Cuentacuentos also brings lively, interactive tales in English and Spanish to the Upper Garden.
The festival is free, but the Getty Center requires a timed-entry reservation, so book ahead and bring your ticket on your phone or printed. Drop in any time during the day, and remember that paid parking applies.
