These New Netflix Preschool Series Bring Girl Power and Diversity to the Forefront

Netflix recently debuted a slate of new preschool series that are steeped in diversity, allowing young viewers to see themselves on screen. Not only has Netflix doubled down on diversity for its youngest viewers, but it’s also putting strong females as lead characters, proving that young girls can change the world.

Ada Twist, Scientist

Available on Netflix

Ada Twist, Scientist follows the adventures of 8-year-old Ada Twist, a pint-sized scientist with a giant-sized curiosity, who aspires to discover the truth about absolutely everything. With the help of her two best friends, Rosie Revere and Iggy Peck, Ada unravels and solves mysteries for her friends and family. Ada shows kids that STEM is fun and attainable for everyone.

Karma’s World

Available on Netflix

Karma’s World was created and produced by Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges. The series follows 10-year-old Karma Grant, an aspiring musical artist, and rapper with big talent and an even bigger heart. Smart, resilient, and deeply empathetic, Karma pours her soul into songwriting, channeling her feelings into whip-smart rhymes with passion, courage, and her signature brand of humor. She doesn’t just want to share her music with the world...she wants to change the world with it!

Ridley Jones

The new season starts on November 2, 2021 on Netflix

Ridley Jones is Netflix’s newest preschool series, following six-year-old Ridley who, alongside her mother and grandmother, is a protector of the museum she calls home. Keeping the exhibits safe takes a real hero, especially when the lights go out and the exhibits — from Egyptian mummies to stampeding elephants — come to life! Throughout her many adventures, Ridley finds that being a good protector, and leader, is about finding common ground and respecting others, no matter what our differences might be.

Ridley Jones includes the first nonbinary character on a preschool show, Fred the bison. The cast also includes other LGBTQ+ characters and can be found in the “Representation Matters” collection on Netflix. Fred has a recurring role in the series and is one of Ridley’s closest friends.
