If you’re always on the lookout for a family outing that’s equal parts imaginative, playful and memorable, then you’ll love what’s happening at the Skirball Cultural Center. The beloved interactive space for kids and families, known as Noah’s Ark at the Skirball, is getting a major refresh—and I couldn’t wait to share the update with you.
Come December 2025, this playful, story‑inspired experience will be back and better than ever, with brand‑new features both indoors and outdoors. Think giant olive tree slides, interactive watering holes, a nature‑play garden, and all the whimsy that families have come to adore. Let’s walk through the magic together, so you can plan your next outing with confidence and excitement.

Why Families Love Noah’s Ark at the Skirball
For over a decade, Noah’s Ark at the Skirball has inspired children of all ages through storytelling, hands-on creativity, and imaginative play. Set inside an 8,000-square-foot wooden ark filled with whimsical, handcrafted animals made from upcycled materials (yes, really — think baseball mitts, mop heads, and rearview mirrors!), the space invites visitors to explore the timeless story of Noah in a way that encourages connection, compassion, and creativity.
Kids are encouraged to build, climb, imagine, and even create storms or rainbows—all while learning the values of teamwork, kindness, and hope.
And now, that experience is growing even more magical.
What’s New Inside the Reimagined Noah’s Ark
When the exhibit reopens in December 2025, families will step into a newly enhanced gallery space designed for deeper exploration and even more fun. Here’s what’s in store:
Immersive Lighting and Enhanced Design
The updated interior will include immersive lighting and enhanced storytelling features that will make the entire Ark feel more alive than ever before.
A Giant Olive Tree & New Slides
A brand-new giant olive tree centerpiece will serve as both a symbol of peace and a playful gathering spot. Slides will be added to help “unload” the animals — turning storytime into action time!
Planting Area & Watering Hole
Kids can get their hands dirty in a planting area, and splash around near a watering hole where they might meet one of the Ark’s beloved puppet animals. These new features are perfect for kids who love tactile, nature-based activities.

Step Outside: A Brand-New Outdoor Garden Space
One of the most exciting additions is the new outdoor garden, designed to invite nature-based play and exploration. Inspired by Jewish values of renewal, connection, and caring for the earth, this space will offer something for every age and interest.
Nature-Based Sensory Play
Expect sensory garden paths, interactive sand and water play, and lots of ways to engage with nature in a safe, enclosed, and imaginative space.
Play Structures & Picnic Areas
Creative play structures will encourage movement and imagination, while picnic areas provide a relaxing space for snack breaks and family downtime. It’s the perfect setting for a peaceful afternoon of learning and play.
A Blend of Learning, Creativity, and Connection
What makes Noah’s Ark truly stand out is how it blends educational themes with immersive play. From the recycled materials used to build the animal sculptures to the timeless themes of friendship, survival, and hope — this experience offers more than entertainment. It encourages families to envision a better world together, one playful interaction at a time.
