The UVSA Tết Festival is back for the Year of the Pig at the 38th annual Vietnamese New Year celebration. This year’s theme is “Stories of Our Heritage. This is the largest Vietnamese New Year festival in the nation. It is run entirely by volunteers consisting of high school and college students, young professionals, and parents. The goal is to help preserve and share the Vietnamese culture. $6 general admission; free for children 2 & younger. Parking is $9. On Saturday, Feb. 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., free admission for guests wearing scout uniform, military uniform, or traditional Vietnamese attire.

Pretend City Children’s Museum will provide families with an array of different, fun, interactive activities, character visits and performances inspired by traditional Asian culture at the Asian Cultural Festival from Saturday, February 9, to Sunday, February 10 from 10 am to 2 pm. Each day will feature various cultural activities such as cherry blossom painting, a red lantern art project, and martial arts performances to support the development of children’s hand eye coordination, cultural competence and sensory integration. Families will enjoy visits from a special warrior princess, a dual language story time with Ni Hao Chinese, a karate lesson and other special performances.

Join the 120th Annual Golden Dragon Parade this Saturday with over thousands of individuals lining the parade route. This colorful celebrating along North Broadway in Chinatown has become the premiere cultural event in the Southern California Asian-American Community. The parade theme emphasizes ethnic diversity, Chinese culture and exposure to Chinese-American businesses. Red packets of money (Lai see or Hung bao) and firecrackers add fun and excitement to the Chinese New Year celebration. (Free; Grandstand seats $10 - $20)
