Description
From October 8 to November 3, the Skirball Cultural Center will host Force Majeure, an innovative community sukkah installation created by multidisciplinary artist Jonathan York. This large-scale immersive artwork combines a monumental burnt wood sculpture with a living garden of over 200 plants, symbolizing renewal and rebirth after a year of turmoil. Visitors will be transported through a multi-sensory experience, enveloped in sounds recorded in Israel’s natural landscapes, from the Jordan River to the Negev Desert. The installation serves as a space for reflection, gathering, and reconnection with nature. Force Majeure is the latest in York’s six-year exploration of the sukkah as a medium, blending tradition with contemporary art. Admission is free, and the exhibit is accessible during regular museum hours at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.
