The Red Lemon

Step into the whimsical world of The Red Lemon at the Norton Simon Museum—a delightful storytime and art activity inspired by Bob Staake’s colorful picture book! Follow Farmer McPhee as he discovers an unexpected red lemon in his yellow lemon orchard, and explore the power of embracing the unusual.

After the story, kids and families are invited to draw and color their very own special lemon tree, using inspiration from Francisco de Zurbarán’s classic still life painting Still Life with Lemons, Oranges and a Rose, which is featured in the museum’s collection. It's a joyful mix of storytelling, creativity, and a little bit of art history—all in one fun hour.
