The Outsiders

Stay gold, Ponyboy. The Phantom Projects Theatre Group brings The Outsiders to the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts in March 2027, offering two evening public performances of this stage version of S.E. Hinton's landmark novel. The play is adapted by Christopher Sergel and follows the story many families know from middle school English class.

Seen through the eyes of Ponyboy, a young Greaser, the play explores the rivalry between his tight-knit, working-class crew and the wealthy Socs. As tensions explode, the characters wrestle with loyalty, family, friendship and growing up too fast, themes that still hit home with teens today.

It's an excellent pick for families with tweens and teens, especially kids who are reading the book in school. Seeing the story performed live can spark great conversations at home about class, belonging and choices. For an extra memorable night, the production offers optional Behind-the-Curtain seats that include a backstage tour, a chance to meet the cast and photo opportunities before evening shows.

Weekday morning and early afternoon performances are reserved for school field trips, so families should book the 7 PM shows. Parking at the theatre is free.
