Description
Step back in time with The Curse of Quon Gwon, the earliest known Chinese American feature film, brought to life with live piano accompaniment. Directed by Marion E. Wong in 1916, this silent film tells a heartfelt story of cultural tension as a Chinese American family wrestles with the push and pull of Westernization and traditional values.
Lost for decades and rediscovered in 2005, the surviving two reels of this groundbreaking work were lovingly restored and honored in the National Film Registry for their cultural significance. This is a rare chance to experience an important piece of Asian American cinematic history. The screening is part of Sierra Madre Playhouse's multi-week Lunar New Year Festival, making it a perfect way to celebrate the season with art, culture, and community.
