The Adventures of Tortoise and Hare: The Next Gen

Lightwire Theater is heading to Laguna Beach with its glow-in-the-dark spin on Aesop's most famous race. The Adventures of Tortoise and Hare: The Next Gen hits the Laguna Playhouse stage for three performances on Saturday, January 30, 2027, and it is the kind of show that makes kids lean forward in their seats from the very first scene.

Instead of painted sets and costumes, the company builds its characters out of electroluminescent wire and puppetry, so a steady tortoise and a show-off hare seem to float, zip and tumble through the darkness in bright neon color. Creators Ian Carney and Corbin Popp pair those striking visuals with heartfelt storytelling and a mix of music, which keeps the action easy to follow even for little ones who are still learning to sit through a play.

The story's message about patience and perseverance lands with preschoolers and grade-schoolers alike, while parents and grandparents get to marvel at how the effects are done. With an 11:00 AM, 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM show on the same day, it is simple to fit a performance around naps, lunch or a stroll through downtown Laguna Beach. Seats are reserved, so your family will want to book early for the best views of the glowing action.
