Terranea's Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony

Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes officially welcomes the holiday season with its Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, a sparkling evening set against the Pacific Ocean. The star of the show is a 30-foot tree dressed in hundreds of ornaments and lights, topped with a glowing star. As the sun sets over the coastline, the crowd counts down together for the big moment. It is one of the most scenic tree lightings in the South Bay.

The fun starts well before the switch is flipped. Local performing arts groups fill the evening with holiday carols and dance numbers, and in past years a Nutcracker-themed performance has added extra sparkle. Kids can hop aboard a festive trackless train, snap photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus and write notes to the North Pole.

Families can warm up at hot chocolate and cider stations, and decorated cookies and grab-and-go bites are available to purchase. The resort invites guests to bring a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots, which makes it a lovely moment to talk with kids about giving. Bundle up, since coastal evenings get chilly, and plan to arrive early for a good view of the tree.
