Description
Honolulu Theatre for Youth, one of the oldest and most honored children's theater companies in the country, returns to Costa Mesa in February 2027 with Tales of the Sun & Moon, a brand-new production built around the sky stories people have told for centuries. The show plays four performances in the intimate Samueli Theater as part of Segerstrom Center for the Arts' Family Series.
The production gathers legends about the sun and moon from Hawaiʻi, China, Korea and other cultures and weaves them together with spoken word, movement and live music. Young audience members are invited to think of themselves as story keepers, which turns the hour into a gentle lesson in how different traditions explain the same sky, and how much people around the world share.
Families can come early, too. Family Series performances include about an hour of free, hands-on activities in the lobby before showtime, a great way to burn off some wiggles before the lights go down. The Sunday, February 28 performance at 1:00 PM is interpreted in American Sign Language.
