SCARY STORIES

Angels Gate Cultural Center keeps one of San Pedro's coziest Halloween traditions alive with the 24th annual SCARY STORIES. Produced and directed by storyteller Melanie Jones, this outdoor evening turns spooky literature into live radio theater around a bonfire, complete with sound effects that make every creak and whisper feel close.

A cast of readers performs an all-new lineup of eerie tales drawn from writers such as Ray Bradbury, H.P. Lovecraft, David Lubar, Nancy Etchemendy, Eugene Field and Jerome K. Jerome. The program is designed for listeners young and old, with stories that deliver shivers and smiles rather than gore.

Families should bring their own chairs and warm layers, since the evening gets chilly on the hilltop near the ocean. A limited number of free folding chairs is available on site, picnics are welcome, and no reservations are needed. Admission is cash only, so parents should bring small bills.
