Description
Saturday Mornings at the Opera gives young children a playful, low-pressure first taste of the art form inside one of LA's grandest concert halls. LA Opera designed Open Door Days especially for kids ages 3 to 9, pairing hands-on arts activities with a family-friendly opera performance written just for young audiences.
The morning kicks off in the lobby with art, music and dance workshops. Kids can warm up their voices alongside LA Opera artists, learn a new dance with professional choreographers and make one-of-a-kind crafts to take home. Local arts organizations and nonprofits also host activity tables, giving your family a chance to discover more creative programs around Los Angeles.
Then it is showtime. The 50-minute interactive performance takes kids on a whirlwind world tour of famous operas, with stops for cowboys, bullfighters, Parisian partygoers, a very sad clown and a pair of real-life lovebirds. Along the way, young listeners learn how an orchestra follows the conductor and how supertitles help audiences follow the story, with music from Carmen, Pagliacci, The Magic Flute, La Bohème and The Girl of the Golden West.
Every guest, no matter their age, needs a ticket, including babies and grown-ups. Families bringing a group of 10 or more can save 20% by ordering through the LA Opera Box Office by phone.
