Description
Historic Downtown San Pedro marks 15 years of its Día de los Muertos Festival with a free community celebration of Latin American and Mexican heritage. Presented by Discover San Pedro, the festival draws thousands of visitors from across Los Angeles and Orange County for an afternoon and evening of music, art and tradition along the harbor town's downtown streets.
Families can stroll past beautifully decorated altars entered in the festival's altar contest, admire the elaborate looks in the Catrina costume contest, and enjoy a mix of traditional and contemporary Mexican music on stage. Kids have their own corner of fun with crafts and festive activities, and free trolley rides make it easy to hop around downtown.
Guests are encouraged to dress in Día de los Muertos-inspired attire, so face paint and flower crowns are more than welcome. Local food vendors will be serving up plenty to eat, and a beer garden is on hand for the grown-ups. It all adds up to a colorful, budget-friendly outing that gives kids a joyful introduction to a meaningful tradition.
