Peter and the Wolf

Prokofiev's classic musical tale leaps into dance at Segerstrom Center for the Arts on Saturday, May 1, 2027. This brand-new storybook ballet version of Peter and the Wolf was created just for the Center by the American Ballet Theatre William J. Gillespie School and is danced by its talented pre-professional students.

Kids follow Peter as he slips past his garden gate despite his grandfather's warnings, only to come face to face with a hungry wolf. Each character gets a personality all its own through movement, from a flitting bird and a waddling duck to a sneaky cat and the wolf itself. Because Prokofiev wrote the music to introduce children to the instruments of the orchestra, the dancing helps young viewers literally see the music as the story unfolds.

With two daytime performances in the Samueli Theater, this is a fun and approachable choice for families trying ballet for the first time, and a sweet treat for young dancers who want to watch older students shine. Peter's quick thinking saves the day, so the ending leaves everyone smiling.

This ballet was created for young audiences and families and is a great introduction to dance for preschoolers and school-age kids. Every guest needs a ticket regardless of age, and babies in arms are not permitted.

🚙 Parking

Segerstrom Center recommends the Plaza Tower Parking Structure, across Park Center Drive from the Westin South Coast Plaza and directly behind the concert hall, for shows in the Samueli Theater.

Performance parking is currently $15 (credit card only), and pre-paid parking is available through the Center's website. Valet parking is $30 on Town Center Drive, first come, first served.
