MAPPING Performance: 10 Years of Metro Art Presents

In order to commemorate 10 years of arts and cultural programming inspired by the greater Los Angeles area and the people it serves each day, Metro Art Presents will host a celebration filled with music and dance inspired by Southeast Asian and Afro-Brazilian traditions at  Los Angeles Union Station on Saturday,  June 24 and Sunday, June 25.

From dancers to DJs to rock bands, Metro Art Presents invites the community to witness how Angelenos draw from their varied cultural backgrounds and traditions to create contemporary performing arts.

Saturday, June 24 will feature Southeast Asian traditions and diasporic artists who bring their cultural backgrounds into contemporary practices, while Sunday, June 25 – which will be highly participatory – will highlight Afro-Brazilian traditions, such as capoeira, which blends music, dance, and acrobatics, as well as samba-reggae. All events are free.

• 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm: Roda de Capoeira
• 7:30 pm to 8:00 pm: Roda de Samba led by Mestre Amen Santo and Mestra Minha Velha
