Description

Love Chaos Kin, an award-winning documentary from director and producer Chithra Jeyaram, opens a one-week run at the Laemmle NoHo 7 in North Hollywood. Filmed over a dozen years, it follows an Indian immigrant mother as she helps her adopted twin daughters reconnect with their White birth mother and their Navajo birth father after an unexpected pregnancy brings everyone back into each other's lives.

The 97-minute film takes an intimate and often funny look at identity, belonging and the class divides that can run through an adoption story. It offers plenty to talk about for adoptive and foster parents, birth families, adoptees and anyone raising kids in a multicultural household.

Several evenings feature something extra after the 7:30 PM show. October 9 brings a panel on the film's music, October 10 a panel on memoirs and October 13 a panel on animation. On October 11, director Chithra Jeyaram leads a conversation about adoption, identity and race, October 14 is a special screening co-presented with the South Asian Network and October 15 wraps up with a Q&A featuring author Gretchen Sisson.

Families with young readers should note that autographed copies of Lakshmi Iyer's children's books will be available after the 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM weekend shows. The film is not rated, so parents may want to preview the subject matter before bringing younger children.
