Description
The Los Muertos 5K celebrates Día de los Muertos with a run and walk that begins in El Pueblo de Los Ángeles Historical Monument, the oldest part of the city and home to Olvera Street. Runners and walkers head through lower Chinatown, along Alameda Street past Los Angeles State Historic Park, and across the Los Angeles River before turning back toward downtown with sweeping skyline views.
Music plays along the course, and the finish line turns into a Day of the Dead celebration back on Olvera Street. Face painting is offered on the plaza in front of Pico House from early morning, so families can arrive early and get into the spirit with sugar-skull designs before the start. Every finisher receives a race T-shirt and a finisher medal.
Kids 12 and under can sign up for their own youth entry, making this a great choice for active families who want to run or walk together. Proceeds support the Olvera Street Merchants Association Foundation. There is no bag drop, so plan to leave valuables in the car or at home, and expect a short uphill stretch right before the finish.
