General Info
Feb 09, 2025, 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Free, 4401 West 8th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90005
Description
Join the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (ICYOLA) for a stirring musical tribute to Black history, presented in collaboration with African Americans for LA Opera (AALAO). As the largest predominantly Black orchestra in the United States, ICYOLA brings an unforgettable performance celebrating the rich contributions of Black composers. This special concert features an inspiring selection of works, including "Lift Every Voice and Sing", arranged by ICYOLA Music Director Charles Dickerson, and original compositions such as "Festival Overture" and "Trial and Triumph" by Kenechi and Kevon Fortune, honoring Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. The program also includes Margaret Bonds' "Montgomery Variations," a moving tribute to the civil rights movement.
As part of the LA Voices series, guests can also enjoy docent-led tours of the historic Ebell of LA campus. This is more than just a concert—it’s a powerful experience that honors resilience, history, and the transformative power of music.
