Description
KCRW and the Skirball Cultural Center are joining forces for a free family day built around music, making and fall harvest fun. Kids are in charge of the fun here, with drop-in activities spread across the Skirball's Brentwood campus and a soundtrack provided by some of LA's most playful music educators.
In the Taper Courtyard, the Silverlake Conservatory of Music leads pop-up lessons, Dance Church gets everyone moving and KCRW DJ Tana Yonas spins family-friendly sets. Over in the Haas Conference Center, kids can build a jingling festival wand from dowels and upcycled materials with Rediscover Center or write an original song with the creative team from 826LA. Multi-instrumentalist Logan Hone invites families to hop aboard his Feel Good Music Train for a hands-on jam session in the Founders Courtyard.
There is plenty more around campus. Drop into the amphitheater for an 11:15 AM drum-and-shaker music jam, make a fruit-shaped Sukkot decoration in the Family Art Studio, join a Bloom Garden workshop with Adamah LA at noon or 2:00 PM, or take a docent-led peek into the Visions and Values gallery. The museum galleries are free all day, and the Noah's Ark exhibition is open with first-come, first-served timed tickets.
The day is open to kids of all ages, with most activities geared toward children ages 6 to 10. The Archaeology Dig will be closed, and pets are not allowed on campus (ADA service animals are welcome).
