Hike With Your Heart

Hike With Your Heart is Kidsave's signature outdoor fundraiser, and the Los Angeles hike returns to Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area for a feel-good Saturday morning. The event started right here in LA in 2015 and has since spread to cities across the country, all with the same goal: raising money and awareness so older kids in foster care can build lasting connections with caring adults and permanent families.

The morning kicks off with check-in and an outdoor breakfast at the Sun Valley Picnic Area, followed by a group hike of about 2.5 miles with breaks along the way. The route opens with a long uphill climb before easing into gentler rolling terrain, so sturdy shoes with good grip are a must. Hikers of every skill level are welcome, and leashed, well-socialized dogs can come along too.

After the hike, everyone gathers for a picnic lunch, family-friendly games and a chance to meet Kidsave families, volunteers and staff. Participants can join as individuals or form a team with friends, family or coworkers, and each registrant gets a personal fundraising page to share. It is a meaningful way for your family to spend time outdoors while showing kids that every step can make a difference.

Some of the young people at the event are part of Kidsave's programs, and organizers ask guests to be friendly but respectful, which means no questions about a child's personal circumstances and no photos or videos of the kids.

All ages are welcome.

The roughly 2.5-mile hike is moderate with some steep sections, so it is best suited to kids who are comfortable walking uphill on loose gravel.

Registration is required.

Adults: $40

Children (ages 4–17): $15

Children ages 3 and under: Free (does not include T-shirt or lunch)

Paid registration includes an official Hike With Your Heart T-shirt, outdoor breakfast, picnic lunch, and games and activities.

Participants are encouraged to fundraise; Kidsave suggests a goal of $500 to $2,000.
