Family Weekend Workshop at The Broad

The Broad in downtown Los Angeles is hosting a free Family Weekend Workshop as part of LA NDN Flea – A Native Market, a two-day celebration of Indigenous makers presented with The Chapter House during Native American Heritage Month. The hands-on workshop is inspired by Broad collection artist Jeffrey Gibson, a member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians who is also Cherokee, known for his dazzling colors, patterns, and powerful words. It is a creative, culturally rich outing for families who love art and want to support Indigenous artists.

Kids and grown-ups will design their own flags using bold colors, patterns, and Gibson-style lettering that looks almost like symbols. Participants are encouraged to think about their history, culture, community, and what makes them unique, then add a favorite song lyric, a historic quote, or a meaningful saying. Families can also pick up a free, limited-run poster of Gibson's artwork She Never Dances Alone (2020) while supplies last.

Beyond the art table, the market features handcrafted jewelry, recycled clothing, original art, and gifts from dozens of local and visiting Indigenous makers, along with curated DJ sets, food and coffee vendors, and community resource groups. A free general admission ticket includes same-day access to the event, the third-floor collection galleries, and The Shop. It is a wonderful chance for your family to get a head start on holiday shopping while making art together.

Food and beverage vendors will be on site during the market, including coffee, bakery, crepe, and fresh fruit vendors.

🚙 Parking

The Broad's garage is located under the museum, with entry only from 2nd St. off Grand Ave. Weekend parking is a flat $19 all day. Metro riders can take the A or E Line to Grand Avenue Arts/Bunker Hill Station. Rates are subject to change.
