Description
Get ready for feathers to fly in Northridge! Duck Pond, created by director Yaron Lifschitz and the world-renowned Australian circus company Circa, mashes up the classic ballet Swan Lake with Hans Christian Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling. The result is one of the most inventive family outings of the fall, and it lands at The Soraya at CSUN for a single Sunday matinee on November 1, 2026.
Instead of telling the story through ballet steps alone, Circa’s acrobats bring it to life with soaring aerial routines, towering human pyramids, daring lifts and balances that seem to defy gravity, all set to an original score by Australian composer Jethro Woodward. Kids who love gymnastics, dance or anything that flips through the air will be glued to their seats, while grown-ups can have fun spotting the playful nods to the famous ballet.
Underneath all the thrills is a sweet, funny story about figuring out who you really are and where you belong, which makes it a great conversation starter on the drive home. Earlier tour stops ran about 80 minutes including an intermission, a very manageable length for school-age kids, and the 3 p.m. curtain leaves plenty of time for an early dinner afterward.
