CINDERELLA

Santa Monica Playhouse brings back its long-running family musical CINDERELLA for three November weekends, and this version has a fresh multimedia makeover. Written by Playhouse favorites Chris DeCarlo and Evelyn Rudie, the show pairs original songs with special effects, a laugh-out-loud silent movie sequence and a little stage magic. The result is a fairytale that feels both classic and playful, with a message about believing in your dreams and liking yourself just as you are.

Kids meet a spirited, independent Cinderella, a prince who wants to be loved for who he is rather than for his crown, and a pair of goofy stepsisters who learn that looks are not everything. A slightly scatterbrained steampunk fairy godmother and a bewildered king add even more silliness to the mix. Young audience members are invited to help the story along, so expect plenty of cheering and calling out from the seats.

The cozy theater in downtown Santa Monica makes this a great first live-theater experience for little ones, and performances land at kid-friendly weekend times. Ticket prices are friendly too, with a discount for children 12 and under. The Playhouse also offers birthday parties hosted by costumed fairytale characters at every performance, a fun idea if your family has a celebration coming up.
