Autumn Festival at Aquarium of the Pacific

Every November, the Aquarium of the Pacific throws open its doors to Long Beach's diverse Asian and Pacific Islander communities for the Autumn Festival, a lively two-day celebration where marine science meets cultural tradition. Families can wander from tide pools to taiko drums in the same afternoon, making it one of the more unique fall outings in Southern California.

Throughout the weekend, kids and parents can catch traditional music and dance performances honoring Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Filipino heritage, with lion dancers, taiko drummers, and folk dancers taking the stage at Blue Cavern and the Honda Pacific Visions Theater. Craft demonstrations and storytelling sessions give little ones a hands-on way to learn about the cultures being celebrated, and of course, the Aquarium's regular exhibits, from sharks to sea otters, are included with admission.

Because the festival is included with general admission, families get a full day of ocean exploration plus a cultural celebration in one visit. Reservations are recommended in advance since timed entry can fill up, especially on weekends, so it's worth booking ahead.
