A Christmas Carol, the Musical – Rose Center Theater

Rose Center Theater in Westminster celebrates the season with A Christmas Carol, the Broadway musical version of Charles Dickens' timeless story. Music comes from Alan Menken, the composer behind Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Little Mermaid, with lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. Families watch grumpy Ebenezer Scrooge face the ghost of Jacob Marley and three Christmas spirits, all in one life-changing night.

Snowy Victorian streets, bustling carolers and the joyful Fezziwig Christmas Ball fill the stage with color and energy, while songs like God Bless Us Everyone deliver plenty of heart. Directed by Tim Nelson with choreography by Jennifer Matthews and Diane Makas, this full-scale community production features a big cast of talented Orange County performers. It is a wonderful first musical for young theatergoers and a nostalgic favorite for grandparents.

The theater suggests the show for ages 5 and up, and the run time is about two hours plus an intermission. With only seven performances between November 29 and December 20, families should book early. On Saturday, December 5, grown-ups can add some sparkle with the Fezziwig's Christmas Ball gala fundraiser, which includes a holiday feast and a glass of bubbly before curtain.
