Description
Manhattan Beach lights up the December sky when the 38th Annual Skechers Manhattan Beach Holiday Fireworks returns to the pier. Started in 1989 as a December thank-you to the community, this free celebration now draws around 20,000 people to downtown Manhattan Beach for an afternoon and evening packed with holiday spirit.
The fun starts in the afternoon with live music on the Pier stage, strolling carolers from Mira Costa High School and a Santa float on Manhattan Avenue at Manhattan Beach Boulevard. Kids can head to the Snow Park on the upper south parking lot above the pier, where admission for the general public is a donation of an unwrapped toy or canned food item for a local charity.
The grand finale is a dazzling fireworks show launched over the Manhattan Beach Pier at 7:00 PM. The show goes on rain or shine, barring severe weather. Families can stake out a spot on Manhattan Beach Boulevard between Highland Avenue and the pier starting at 4:00 PM, or once police clear the street for access, so bring a blanket and some warm layers for the beach breeze.
With downtown shops and restaurants right next door, it is easy to make an evening of it. Arrive early, grab dinner nearby and settle in for one of the South Bay's most beloved holiday traditions.
