The Hollywood Sign

The Hollywood Sign

The Hollywood Sign is an iconic symbol of Hollywood and is recognized worldwide. The sign was originally created in 1923 as a temporary advertisement for a real estate development and was intended to last only a few years. However, it became so popular that it has since become a permanent fixture in the Hollywood Hills.

The Hollywood Sign is located in Griffith Park, and it is visible from several areas of the city. Visitors can get a great view of the sign from many different locations throughout the park. The easiest way to get to the sign is by taking one of the many hiking trails that lead to the top of Mount Lee, where the sign is located.

There are several hiking trails that lead to the Hollywood Sign, and they vary in difficulty and length. The most popular trail is the Hollywood Sign Trail, which is approximately three miles round trip and takes visitors to a viewpoint where they can get a great view of the sign. This trail is considered easy to moderate and is suitable for most visitors.

Another popular trail is the Brush Canyon Trail, which is approximately six miles round trip and is a more challenging hike. This trail offers stunning views of the Hollywood Hills and the surrounding city.

Visitors can also see the Hollywood Sign from several other viewpoints throughout Griffith Park, including the Griffith Observatory, the Mount Hollywood Trail, and the Cahuenga Peak Trail. These viewpoints offer different angles and perspectives of the sign and are a great way to see it from different angles.

In addition to hiking, visitors can also take a guided tour of the Hollywood Sign. Several companies offer guided tours that take visitors to the top of Mount Lee and provide an up-close view of the sign. These tours are a great way to learn about the history and significance of the Hollywood Sign and are suitable for visitors of all ages.

Looking for a hassle-free way to view the Sign? The DASH Observatory bus service, operated by LADOT Transit, runs every 20 minutes, seven days a week. Beginning at 10 AM, buses will run every 15 minutes until 10 PM covering the entire route (including The Greek Theatre and Griffith Observatory). Last bus from Vermont/Sunset leaves at 9:45 PM.
