Community Bookshelves: Celebrating National Library Week in Santa Monica!

It's National Library Week and we couldn't be more excited to celebrate all the wonderful public libraries in our community! The Santa Monica Public Library is thrilled to recognize this important occasion and pay tribute to its five library branches: Main Library, Montana, Pico, Fairview, and Ocean Park.

Despite pandemic-related limitations on hours of operation, the library staff has remained dedicated to providing resources and innovative services to the community. The library board is committed to expanding hours and restoring library services to the public.

In addition to these wonderful physical libraries, National Library Week is also an opportunity to recognize the smaller libraries located in neighborhood yards, parks, and public spaces. These community book-sharing bookcases come in all shapes and sizes and provide 24/7 access to books for everyone. These little libraries not only promote literacy but also help bring neighborhoods together.

To show support for these little libraries, the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library, in collaboration with the library board, are donating books to help support neighborhood collections. If you have a little library or want to add books to your collection, fill out the Little Library Survey to participate.

For those interested in getting involved in supporting the public libraries in Santa Monica, the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library offer volunteer opportunities at the board level, program outreach, fund-raising, and advocacy.
