24th Street Theatre's latest contribution to the Los Angeles stage is a bilingual, humorous journey in search of what it means to be "American." With a love of baseball, Tia Victoria's salsa recipe and the help of a talking truck, two cousins work day and night to make their taco truck the "Uncle Sam" of mobile restaurants.
It is ultimately a morality tale, where the main character is reminded to live how he was brought up to live, versus seeing what he wants to see in how he is treated, and how he perceives success is obtained in the United States.
The performances are entrancing, and the set is clever and fun. Brilliantly, there's a space on the stage where subtitles are displayed for the audience, so the cast can move seamlessly from Spanish to English allowing them to genuinely be the characters they are portraying.
As for taking your children, the story is an uplifting story, and it is appropriate for ages 8 and up. The premise was put to playwright Leon Martell to write a story about what it is to seek "the American dream", and to incorporate some real experiences of immigrants from his neighborhood into a story that speaks to the bigger picture of immigration in America. Now as well as this, in the end, I feel it also relates that choosing to be a good person, that makes good decisions will get you closer to that dream, and that message will not be missed by children.

After the show you get to take your picture with the "talking truck", which is a fun experience for the kids especially because the truck is a "talking truck".

The show is open to the public from April 28th through June 10th, and tickets are on sale now. The general admission is $24 for adults, $10 for kids under 18, and $15 for students, teachers, and seniors.

Parking is available in the lot across the street, on the southwest corner of 24th and Hoover, and it is $5 flat fee. We recommend to get there early before the parking gets full.

We had some tacos at this food truck before the show, and they were, surprisingly, very good and inexpensive. They make the Carne Asada right in front of you on real charcoals, which I thought was great; something you don't see every day.
