Painting-Color Theory, Ages 6-10

Description
In this course, students will gain a basic understanding of color theory. They will learn about different color groups such as complementary, analogous, triadic, and monochromatic. The lesson plan and schedule for the course are as following: Class 1: Color wheel/Primary colors - yellow blue, and red. Work only with yellow and blue to make green and colors in between. Fill yellow-blue colors on the blank color wheel. Paint a small painting with these colors (ie: yellow lemon on the green background) Class 2: Work only with yellow and red to make orange and colors in between. Fill yellow-red colors on the blank color wheel. Paint a small painting with these colors (ie: red/yellow apple on the dark yellow/orange background) Class 3: Work only with blue and red to make purple and colors in between. Fill blue-red colors on the blank color wheel. Paint a painting with these colors (ie: a purple mug or an eggplant on the red or blue background). Class 4: Color Groups - Complementary colors, triadic colors, and analogous colors. This class - Complementary colors (opposites on the color wheel). Class 5: Triadic colors - sets of 3 colors all along with the color wheel. Class 6: Analogous color - colors that are next to each other on the color wheel (groups of 3). Class 7: Monochromatic colors - use any color with white and black, with a slow gradation from light to dark, then paint using the graduate colors. Class 8: Making a palette - use 3 primary colors to make secondary and tertiary, white in the middle. 3 brushes with various color mixing combinations. Sunset on the ocean with all colors.
