The deadline to apply for summer school is June 5, 2023.
When is Summer School 2023 for LAUSD Students?
Summer of Learning 2023 is scheduled for June 26, 2023 through July 25, 2023. The first day of the summer school will be on Monday, June 26, 2023. Classes are offered daily, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Schools will be closed on Monday-Tuesday July 3-4, 2023, in observance of Independence Day.
How Should I Apply for Summer School in LAUSD?
Students in grades ETK to 8 can apply for summer courses online through the LAUSD website. You need to log in with your parent ID and password to apply for summer school. Then you select the student who will be enrolling in summer school. You need to verify your information to continue with enrollment, and then choose an LAUSD school that is near you that offers summer school.
However, students in grades 9 through 12 should contact their school counselor to apply.
What programs are offered by LAUSD during Summer School?
Summer School, ETK-8, is a two-part program offering core instruction in English language arts, math and English language development, as well as targeted intervention and enrichment, per LAUSD. This program will be offered to students as an in-person program only. All programs will be closed on June 19, 2023 and July 3-4, 2023 in observance of the national holidays.

Students eligible for specialized programs will be contacted by their school. These programs include California State Preschool Program, Extended School Year (ESY) Grades PK-12, International Newcomer Enrichment Summer Program and The Migrant Education Program (MEP).
Virtual summer enrichment offers student favorites such as Fender, where students can learn how to play bass guitar or ukulele, 2D Game Design, Cartooning and Animation, World Language courses, Fashion, STEM courses, Dance and Music and many other exciting courses. Students with disabilities, eligible for ESY as indicated in their IEP, may participate in summer school and continue progress towards their IEP goals. Click here for additional information regarding ESY.
The Migrant Education Program (MEP) offers supplemental services to migratory children ages 3 to 21. Students are provided with instruction in English Language Arts & Development, mathematics, arts, and science. In partnership with the Los Angeles Zoo, elementary students visit the zoo, work with a zoologist, and create presentations about select animals. Transportation is provided from select school sites.
Does LAUSD offer after-school programs during the Summer?
Yes. On-site after-school enrichment programs are also available through Beyond the Bell (BTB) at ETK-8 summer host sites. Beyond the Bell programming is available beginning June 13 to July 28, 2023, Monday to Friday, from 12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

How to Apply for Beyond the Bell for Summer?
In-Person Application
Request an application at your child's school.
Complete the application and return it on the first day of the summer program to the Beyond the Bell program staff.
Online Application
Click on the list of summer host sites.
Find the school where you would like to enroll your child.
Click on the link to obtain the appropriate summer program application.
Download, print and submit your application on the first day of summer school to the summer program staff.
Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee enrollment. Space is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.
