The Orange County Fair start this Friday and continues through Sunday, August 11th. You can enjoy live musical entertainment, shopping, exhibits, animals, rides, food, and more. Check the website for ticket information. (The Fair is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays).

Making Mosaics Brick by Brick

Participate in a drop-in art program, Making Mosaics Brick by Brick this Saturday at the Getty Villa. Just as Ancient Roman artists worked together to create incredible mosaic floors from pieces of marble and glass, families will create in much the same way using the familiar material of colorful plastic bricks. Admission is free but advance entry tickets are required to visit the Getty Villa.


Lucas Museum at Leimert: Family Art Day

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art invites you to a special family art-making day this Saturday. Children can create their own creature masks, have fun with the photo booth, and more. A Star Wars concept artist and a Walt Disney Animation Studio artist will be on hand to “inspire your creations and to talk about using their imaginations to bring fantastic creatures to life.” This event is free and open to public.

The Griffith Observatory is ready to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 Moon Landing. On Saturday, families can participate in a free Star Party at 2:00 pm. Then, at 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm, screenings of the full-length, Sundance award-wining film Apollo 11 will be shown. Tickets are needed for the film screening and are $20 each.

The Skirball Cultural Center is hosting two family-friendly special events this weekend. On Saturday, July 13th, at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm, you can enjoy a presentation by Hip Hop Fundamentals, which “focuses on the themes of youth empowerment, diversity, creativity, and working together, embodies by hop-hop’s four principles: peace, love, unity, and having fun!”.


On Sunday, July 14th also at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm, enjoy a performance by Story Pirates. The 45-minute performance “features a cast of six actors, a pianist, and colorful sets, costumes, and props.” Story Pirates “turn kids’ original stories into wild sketch comedy musicals.” All activities are included in general admission.

Explore the Tar Pits every Friday through August 30th, and take advantage of free museum admission, as well as the chance to observe scientists at work in the Fossil Lab. The 866-square-foot pavilion is in the park adjacent to the Tar Pits, and is open till 9pm on Fridays.
