Los Angeles is home to some of the most impressive and diverse museums in the world. From natural history to art and science, there’s something for every kid in this incredible city. But, if you’re a parent on a budget, you may be wondering how to take advantage of the many great museum offerings without breaking the bank. Don’t worry, there are plenty of free museum days for LA kids! In this guide, we’ll cover all the free museum days throughout Los Angeles, so you can take your family on an educational and fun outing. From the Natural History Museum to the California Science Center, there’s something for everyone. So, let’s get started!


A Guide to Free Museum Days for LA Kids in January 2023!

Admission is free to all every day. Visit the ticketing portal to book your free advance general admission tickets.


900 Exposition Blvd.

Los Angeles, CA 90007


L.A. County residents also receive free Museum admission Monday through Friday from 3 to 5 pm. Bring a valid ID or utility bill on the day of your visit. Children 2 and under, and CA EBT cardholders, CA teachers with ID, and USC Students and Faculty with ID are always free. Additional tickets must be purchased to see special exhibitions, Butterfly and Spider Pavilion, 3D Theater, and other special ticketed experiences.

Noah's Ark at Skirball Cultural Center is free every Thursday. Noah's Ark is FREE to Members and Children under 2 every day. FREE tickets must be redeemed by advance reservation; walk-ups will not be accommodated.

Admission to the Science Center's permanent exhibition galleries is free every day for all.

Admission is free every second Tuesday of the month (January 10, 2023). Admission is always free for Autry members, active-duty military, veterans, and children aged 2 and under.

 
 
FUN WITH KIDS IN LA

LACMA is free every day to youth (12 & under) and teens (13–17) residing in L.A. County. NexGenLA members also received free admission any day of the week, along with one guest. NexGenLA is a free membership for kids under 17 years who live in L.A. County.

All L.A. County residents can visit the museum for free on weekdays after 3 pm with valid ID. Bank of America debit or credit card holders get free access to the museum on the first full weekend of every month. All visitors can visit the museum on the second Tuesday of each month for free.

Admission to the Getty Center is always free to all.

Admission to Travel Town Museum is always Free; Train rides are $4 for adults and $3 for children.

Admission to the building and grounds is always free at Griffith Observatory.

Admission to Los Angeles Fire Department Museum is always free to all.

Admission to Descanso Gardens is free on the third Tuesday of each month (January 17, 2023). Limited reservations available starting January 3rd.

Free general admission from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays, and free all day every third Thursday of each month (January 13, 2023).


480 N Arroyo Blvd.

Pasadena, CA 91103

Kidspace Children Musuem is free on the first Friday of each month (January 6, 2023) from 3 pm to 6 pm. Advance reservations are required at kidspacemuseum.org. Tickets are released approximately 2 weeks prior to the date of visit.

L.A. County residents receive free Museum Admission 3-5 pm Monday through Friday.

Additional tickets must be purchased for the 3D Theater. Free L.A. County Resident tickets are available from 3-5 pm Monday through Friday at any museum ticketing desk or kiosk.

South Coast Botanic Garden is free on the third Tuesday of each month (January 17, 2023). Limited reservations are available.

The Huntington is free every first Thursday of the month (January 5th). Note that you have to reserve passes for the free day in advance, and it books up fast.
