LA Fleet Week is a free public event celebrating our U.S. armed forces at the Port of Los Angeles. A Labor Day tradition in Los Angeles, the event welcomes active military ships and personnel to the LA Waterfront and features public ship tours, military equipment demonstrations, live entertainment, educational activities and more.

With the ocean as a backdrop, Hermosa Beach is an ideal place for your labor day weekend. Over 300 artists and crafters are featured, and there are two stages featuring live music. The Food Court offers 18 different kinds of ethnic food choices. Handmade guacamole, crepes, and shaved ice creations are popular with the crowd. The Kiddie Carnival features a 30 foot slide, mechanical rides, rock climbing wall and bungee jump, and games for kids from 3 to 10 years old. Pony rides, a Petting Zoo, and face painters are sure to delight the little ones. (Free)


Eat See Hear Outdoor Movie

Eat See Hear is the LA’s original traveling outdoor movie series which rotates around the city, featuring a wide mix of outdoor movies, live music and yummy food trucks. And this weekend's movie is "Selena", which is the story of the life of Mexican “Tejano” style singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez and the progress of her career resulting in her No. 1 US album. Doors open at 5:00 pm, and music performances begin at 7:00 pm. The movie starts at 8:00 pm. Food trucks will be on site as well. Take blankets and cushions and enjoy the movie under the stars. Ticket information is available online. The film is rated PG.

With its spectacular Zeiss star projector, laser digital projection system, state-of-the-art aluminum dome, comfy seats, sound system, and theatrical lighting, the Samuel Oschin Planetarium Theater is the finest planetarium in the world. Every show is presented by a live, engaging storyteller. There are 3 rotating shows with the first show at 10:45 a.m. and the last show at 8:45 p.m. Children under 5 are admitted ONLY to the first show each day (10:45 a.m. on weekends). (Cost: $3-$7)

The Independent Shakespeare Company presents TITUS ANDRONICUS, and A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM for free. The performance site is at the Old Zoo in Griffith Park. Ample free parking is available. Look for the hot pink signs directing you to the parking lots near the Merry-Go-Round. Parking lot 2 is the closest to the performance site, but be prepared for a bit of a walk up a hill.
